Queen’s Jubilee weekend at Balmoral

Balmoral Castle on the Royal Deeside Tour

This year we celebrate the Queen's Jubilee with additional tours to Balmoral and special Jubilee Celebration Tours!

Celebrating the Queen's Jubilee in Royal Deeside

Balmoral, has been a home for the Royal family since Prince Albert and Queen Victoria purchased the land and castle in 1852.  Generations of Royals have lived and loved this part of Scotland.  Royal Deeside is a beautiful part of Aberdeenshire and has a reputation for being welcoming and friendly, no doubt one of the reasons the Royals love spending time here.

River Dee at Balmoral

Balmoral remains private property of the Queen and is open to visitors from April until the end of July. The late summer months is when the family traditionally like to visit the estate for their annual summer holidays.

The Balmoral Estate has been added to by successive members of the royal family, and now covers an area of approximately 50,000 acres. It is a working estate, including grouse moors, forestry and farmland, as well as managed herds of deer, Highland cattle, and ponies.

Visitors to Balmoral will be able to visit the grounds, exhibitions and the Ballroom of the castle.  The audio tour available shares stories of people who have worked and lived on the estate and bring to life what it was like to be part of the estate.

Balmoral Tours & Royal Deeside

We have offered Balmoral, Braemar and Royal Deeside tours as part of our regular scheduled day tour from Aberdeen for several years and are always a popular choice.  This year, because of the Queen’s Jubilee, we have noticed a big uptake in this tour particularly.  A visit to Balmoral and Braemar where you can follow in the footsteps of Royalty is always a thrilling experience.

The pretty Crathie Kirk just a short walk across the river Dee from Balmoral is a great spot to see the Albert Cairn high on the hill, a memorial to Prince Albert.  Also just a short stroll along the river is the final resting place of John Brown, Queen Victoria’s ghillie and companion following the loss of her beloved Albert.

Braemar is a small highland village which a charm and character that makes is a special place.  Home of the Braemar Gathering every September, Braemar Castle and the luxurious Fife Arms Hotel, Braemar is a place to stop and take a deep breath of fresh highland air.  The village also has fabulous little shops such as Braemar Chocolate Shop and Hazelnut Patisserie to tempt you with scrumptious goodies.

Our scheduled day tour to Balmoral run every Wednesday until the end of July.  In the run up to the Jubilee weekend on the 3rd of June 2022, we will be offering additional tours from Tuesday through Sunday.

Jubilee Celebration Tours

We are delighted to announce our special Jubilee Celebration Tours over the Jubilee Weekend!  These tours will be a real treat for visitors who want to experience the best of Aberdeenshire and Royal Deeside.

We start our Celebration Tours in Aberdeen and our first stop is a visit to Balmoral Castle & Estate. Guests will have time to explore the grounds and exhibitions.  Have a wander through the gardens and enjoy a walk alongside the river Dee.

A delicious picnic full of tasty treats made from local food producers will be enjoyed at a leisurely pace, washed down with local drinks, before we explore Braemar and Ballater.

We make our way back to Aberdeen via the Queen’s View, one of the best locations to see the impressive Lochnager and hills surrounding the Balmoral Estate.  This view is dedicated to Queen Victoria who is cited as saying this was her favourite view, so why not see for yourself?

The Jubilee Celebration Tour include all entry tickets, food and refreshments, plus a little gift to take home.  The new tour is now available to book.
