Exploring the Buchan Coastline: Supporting Dolphin Conservation

Nestled along Scotland’s pretty Buchan Coastline is a hidden gem dedicated to the protection and study of marine life: the Cetacean Research & Rescue Unit (CRRU) in Gardenstown. They are our chosen Wildlife & Habitat Conservation charity for 2024, and we are thrilled to highlight their invaluable work to marine conservation.

The CRRU are a beacon of hope for marine life in the North Sea. Committed to the conservation of cetaceans (whales, dolphins, and porpoises), this nonprofit organization conducts vital research and responds to marine mammal strandings along the Scottish coastline. Led by a passionate team of researchers and volunteers, CRRU’s efforts are more than just observation; they actively engage in rescue missions, rehabilitation efforts, and educational outreach programs to raise awareness about marine conservation.

Exploring Coastal Villages: A Journey Through History and Nature

Taking on a journey along the Buchan Coastline is like stepping into a storybook with unique coastal villages and breathtaking landscapes. From the charming harbour of Gardenstown to the historic ruins of Slains Castle overlooking the North Sea, each stop on this coastal odyssey reveals a tapestry of history, culture, and natural beauty.

Conservation Support by Grampian Escapes & Tour

At Grampian Escapes & Tours, our love for Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire goes hand in hand with our commitment to environmental stewardship. As ambassadors for sustainable tourism, we believe in giving back to the communities and ecosystems that enrich our experiences. That’s why we’ve proudly chosen CRRU as our charity partner for 2024.

On our visits to Gardenstown, we regularly see the CRRU team conducting their work along the headland and bay, including the occasional dolphin sighting from the harbour wall. Last year we were treated to a basking shark sighting as well.

Through our support of CRRU, we hope to raise awareness about the importance of marine conservation while supporting their research and rescue initiatives. A voluntary donation added to every booking with Grampian Escapes & Tours goes directly towards funding CRRU’s operations, ensuring the ongoing protection of marine life along the Buchan Coastline and beyond. We match the donation offered by our guests, making every £1, go that little bit further.
