If you have a passion for great Scottish Whisky then this is the tour for you. We visit two of Aberdeenshire's great Distilleries for a whisky experience which is sure to be memorable. Spend the day learning about the art of distilling our liquid gold, what makes a great dram and the answer to that tricky question; with water or neat?
Departs: Fridays at 08:45 (Bookings must be made in advance)
From: The Craftsman (2 Guild Street, AB11 6NE) close to Union Square and the Bus Station.
Duration: 8 hours
We will start the morning from Aberdeen city centre and head north to the edge of the Spey region to try the first of a highland whisky at Glendronach. A guided distillery Discovery Tour is followed by an exclusive Premium Tasting Tour of The GlenDronach 18 years old, 21 years old and the Distillery Manager's cask (1993, cask #698). This last dram to be sampled is at cask strength and is exclusively available at the distillery.
After tasting the rich single malts at GlenDronach you will be driven to our next tour destination at Oldmeldrum. We will stop for a quick bit at the Redgarth Inn before making our way to Glengarioch Distillery. The experience will start with a tour of the distillery which is at the heart of Oldmeldrum and in integral part of the local community. When you've seen how the whisky is made, it is time to taste with a difference. You've heard of pairing wine and food, now you have the opportunity to pair whisky & cheese! The Rare Pair tasting will allow you to sample the Founders Reserve, 12 years old, Vintage 1986 and Vintage 1994 all beautifully paired with cheese & chutney combinations to bring out the rare flavours in each whisky.
The tour does not include tour fees which are: Premium Tasting Tour £20.00, Founders & Rare Pair tour £53.50 and lunch which is in the region of £15.00.
You will be returned to Aberdeen after the whisky experience to relax for the rest of the evening, or if you've got the taste maybe visit one of our dedicated whisky bars in town.
