Adventure Tourism- getting outdoors in Aberdeenshire

Seaton park is a wonderful place to visit

What is adventure tourism?

Adventure tourism is a leisure activity which often takes place in unusual, remote or wilderness locations. It is a type of travel that includes high levels of outdoor activity and adventure and travelers expect to experience excitement and to be personally tested. In particular, they are explorers of unspoiled landscapes and may seek personal challenges.

Aberdeenshire is an adventure traveler’s dream destination and not all activities are high adrenaline sports. In our Podcast Series Visit the North East of Scotland: Unlocking Aberdeenshire, we recently spoke with Justin Kieron an Aberdeen resident with a passion for spending time outdoors.

You can listen to our full podcast to hear Justin’s story of how he found his way back to getting active.

Location of Aberdeenshire in the North East of Scotland

Aberdeenshire

Aberdeenshire is the 6th largest county in Scotland.  With miles of coast line to explore and many ways to get closer to nature with parks, forests, coastal paths and nature reserves all close by.  The Cairngorm National Park is on the south west corner of Aberdeenshire, the park is the largest national park in the United Kingdom.  There are large woodlands dotted throughout the county with forest walks and mountain bike trails or venture out on a highland safari and go deer stalking with your camera. Whether you are looking for high adrenaline or a relaxed day out, there is something for everyone.

Getting Outside & Active

In this post we will focus on spending time outdoors at a more relaxed pace.  It has long been known that just being outside is good for our physical and mental health.  Spending time in the countryside or the coast is a good way to find out more about the place you are visiting.  Especially in Scotland where most people come to explore and get away from it all.  There are a wide variety of activities you can do when visiting Aberdeen with most in easy distance from the city.  The hard part is knowing what you can do and finding out about the best places.  Below are some of our top recommendations.  It is important to know the Scottish Outdoor Access Code when going out into the countryside.
